(Corneal Reshaping Therapy)
Something new in the field of optometry!!! The corneas of many nearsighted patients are highly curved, and the length of the eyeball from front to back is so long that the image falling on the retina is blurred.
At night, corneal reshaping therapy places rigid gas permeable lenses on the patients? eyes during sleep. Their shape is flat on the inside of the lens to reshape the corneas. Upon waking the patients? curvature is flattened and the axial length of the eyeball is decreased thus making the person less nearsighted than before. The lenses are changed often for the first few weeks until good vision is obtained, and then the patient merely wears them at night as retainer lenses.
The process is reversible. If wear is discontinued, then the patient returns to being nearsighted. For details go to
